On February 4th, World Cancer Day “City of Smile” foundation jointed “I am and I will” movement for the sake of healthy future and organized a “Cancer Awareness” event.

The main purpose of this event was to raise cancer awareness, encourage preventive approach and strive for early diagnosis. Mrs. Anna Hakobyan -the wife of the Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia and Chairwoman of the board of the City of Smile Foundation was also present at the event. In her speech she mentioned she has been dealing with the issue since becoming the Chairwoman of the Board of Trustees of the foundation. “I understood that fight against cancer starts with the attitude. And it is not only about the attitude of the one diagnosed with cancer, but also the attitude of our society in general. This also relates to how the society treats such a person. We have to be a society where a child is not ashamed of telling about receiving treatment and fighting cancer” – noted Anna Hakobyan.

Pediatric oncologist hematologist Gevorg Tamamyan emphasized the importance of this kind of events. The doctor said – “Pediatric cancer treatment is very difficult, moreover required costs for treatment are really high. There is a need for society members to join together against this issue. And the role of foundations in this regard is absolutely crucial.

During this event more than 20 Armenian talented designers presented some items created by them which were sold during the event. The whole proceeds from that sale was donated to City of Smile and will be used for medical needs of children with cancer.
